Most organisations at some time will find themselves in a position where damage limitation is needed. This is a very frightening experience for small businessess and charities who trade on their reputation. There are some very good guidelines you should follow:

1. Identify what could happen
2. Quantify and evaluate each alternative
3. Make plans to deal with each contingency.

These are pretty straightforward if you are honest and frank about the situation but involve a lot of work and sometimes some nail-biting moments.

Remember, you will be most judged on how you handle a situation rather than the cause of the situation. A cool head is needed and appropriate responses made in a timely fashion.
